Han Sang-yun’s solo exhibition “Orchestra of Happy Pigs” opens today, the 15th, at Lotte Department Store Dongtan Branch in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. Gallery T Dongtan Branch is presenting the exhibition in the department store’s main building through November 5.

Han has used pigs, symbols of blessings and good fortune, as subjects in contemporary painting. In the works, pigs laugh, dance, face one another or play instruments. The paintings use humorous expressions, vivid colors and dynamic movement to portray human emotions and relationships.

The exhibition title refers to people with different lives coming together, like different instruments joining to make music. Through the pigs, the artist conveys everyday joy and the meaning of relationships.

A family program will accompany the exhibition. Drawing on the significance of filial devotion in the historical background of King Jeongjo’s royal procession to his father’s tomb, Gallery T Dongtan Branch has organized “Painting Filial Devotion, a Happy Portrait,” linking that theme to the artist’s work. Han will draw caricatures of participants’ parents, and families can write a handwritten letter to them on the back of the finished portrait.

The program will be held in two sessions: “My Mom” for mothers on October 17 and “My Dad” for fathers on October 24. Both will run from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Gallery T Dongtan Branch in the main building of Lotte Department Store Dongtan Branch. Registration is limited to 10 people per session, 20 in total, on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants may attend with their parents or bring a photo of them. Applications are available through Gallery T Dongtan Branch’s official social media accounts.

The exhibition is free to visit, with no reservation required.
