Gallery T Busan Main Branch to hold Kim Gyeong-hyeon solo exhibition 《COEXISTENCE – Existing Together》

A solo exhibition by artist Kim Gyeong-hyeon, which unravels the relationship between humans and nature, as well as the human inner self, through scenes of children and animals facing each other, will be held in Busan.

Gallery T Busan Main Branch will host Kim Gyeong-hyeon's solo exhibition 《COEXISTENCE – Existing Together》 from September 30 to November 10 on the MF floor of the AVENUEL at the Lotte Department Store Busan Main Branch.

This exhibition examines the meaning of "coexistence" through the child 'Sarang-ae' and animals that repeatedly appear in the works. Sarang-ae is not a specific person but a character symbolizing the pure gaze of childhood, capturing a perspective that does not distinguish between humans, animals, and nature within the artworks.

The animals appearing alongside represent beings that form relationships in life, such as family, friends, and lovers, as well as nature and the environment. Through scenes where Sarang-ae and the animals look at and lean on each other, the artist expresses how individuals live within various relationships. The complex gaze of Sarang-ae, which contrasts with the appearance of a young child, is also a major feature of the works.

Kim Gyeong-hyeon primarily uses oil paints to compose the gaze and distance between figures and animals, creating depth on the canvas by layering colors multiple times. While initially focused on building the identity of the character Sarang-ae, the artist has recently expanded interest to the relationships and coexistence that Sarang-ae forms with other beings.

Kim Gyeong-hyeon graduated from the Department of Painting at Keimyung University and won the Grand Prize at the 13th Hoguk Art Exhibition in 2023. In the same year, two of his works were collected by the Kamoliddin Behzod Miniature Gallery in Uzbekistan. In 2026, he participated in BAMA, PLAS 2026 SEOUL, the Seoul Youth Biennale, and the Busan City Hall Art Busan Project.

Artist Kim Gyeong-hyeon said, "Rather than obtaining grand answers through the works, I hope people can briefly look at their surroundings," adding, "I hope they return home with the question, 'What am I living together with right now?' in their hearts, as they reflect on the family, friends, nature, and their own minds that they may have passed over because they were so familiar."
