Seongnam Cube Art Museum to host "Jim Avignon Special Exhibition: Painting the 21st Century with Hope"
The Seongnam Cube Art Museum will host a special exhibition featuring approximately 120 original works by German pop artist Jim Avignon, focusing on messages of hope.
The Seongnam Cube Art Museum will host the special exhibition "Jim Avignon Special Exhibition: Painting the 21st Century with Hope" from December 18 until March 21, 2027. The exhibition will highlight the artistic world of Jim Avignon, focusing on his messages of hope through approximately 120 original works, including new pieces and installation works.
“I think many countries are going through difficult times. The next generations will also face difficult times. But I still love this world so much. I hope we all do not let go of a positive mind,” said Jim Avignon, a representative street artist of Berlin. Born in Germany in 1967 and currently residing in Berlin, he is a first-generation German pop artist active globally across borders. He is well known for his multidisciplinary approach to various surrounding issues, his vibrant artistic style, and his active engagement with urban spaces.
His works exist freely across boundaries and genres, ranging from murals to interactive installations, unconfined by medium or location. His vivid colors and cartoon-like drawings capture various elements that constitute the inside and outside of society—such as animals, love, and the environment—to speak of harmony and coexistence.
His art is characterized by bold and colorful compositions, featuring playful, cartoon-like characters that address social and political themes with satire and wit. Jim Avignon's work often provides commentary that provokes thought on modern life by criticizing consumer culture, mass media, and contemporary social issues.
Jim Avignon has captured his unique artistic world on canvas through whimsical and pleasant works that combine pop art with various social issues and events occurring worldwide. Describing himself as the fastest painter in the world, he uses vivid colors and bold sketches to wittily show the multifaceted aspects of our era—such as the bustling day and night of cities and the light and shadow of a rapidly digitalizing world—without ever losing laughter and humor.
This exhibition introduces Jim Avignon's works at the Seongnam Cube Art Museum, which satirize the complex emotions and realities of modern society in whimsical, pleasant, and sometimes sharp ways. An exhibition official stated, “Through this exhibition, where we face countless inner smiles—from true smiles of joy to our faces wearing the masks of social media personas, and the hopeful tomorrow the artist dreams of—we hope visitors follow a special journey to find true smiles and hope in the 21st century.”
