MU:DS exports approximately $110,000 abroad... also to be seen at the British Museum
The National Museum Foundation of Korea's museum goods brand, MU:DS, has exported approximately $110,000 worth of products in connection with the special exhibition featuring BTS's RM at SFMOMA. The brand will also expand its presence in North America and Europe by showcasing products at the British Museum in October.
MU:DS, the museum goods brand of the National Museum Foundation of Korea, has exported approximately $110,000 worth of products in connection with the special exhibition of BTS's RM and the SFMOMA. This marks the largest single export performance to an overseas museum in the foundation's history.
In October, the brand will expand its reach into North America and Europe by also showcasing MU:DS at the British Museum. At SFMOMA, the exhibition 《RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me》 will be held from October 3 to February 7, 2027.
The exhibition features approximately 180 items, including RM's personal collection and the SFMOMA collection, and in line with this, the foundation has supplied 39 types of MU:DS to the museum shop. The initial order of $110,000 is a 71% increase compared to the total export amount of the two special exhibitions of the Lee Kun-hee donation at the Smithsonian Institution last year (approximately $64,000).
The representative products are the 'Heart Series', which adds the wit of artist Choi Go-sim to miniature Pensive Bodhisattva statues. Characterized by hand gestures such as the ball heart and both-hand heart, these gained attention as they were known to be part of RM's collection. Products inspired by Korean cultural heritage, such as moon jars, celadon, mother-of-pearl, and bojagi, are also being supplied.
At the British Museum, 《Korea: A 2,000-Year Journey of Creativity》 will be held from October 1 to January 31, 2027. As the final exhibition of the overseas tour for the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee's donations, it will showcase 100 works, including 10 National Treasures and 13 Treasures, in London after traveling through Washington D.C. and Chicago. The foundation is supplying 18 types of MU:DS to the museum shop there, preparing products inspired by Jeong Seon's 'Clearing After Rain on Mount Inwang' and 'Sun, Moon and Five Peaks' and 'Magpie and Tiger', which gained attention through the animation 'KPop Demon Hunters'.
The foundation is currently also showcasing MU:DS at the Korea House for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, and plans to launch products linked to the Hong Kong Palace Museum special exhibition at the end of the year.
