The final installment of the 2026 Namsangol Art Project, "Accumulated Hands, Woodworkers," will run from November 3 to November 22 at the Yi Seung-eop House in Samgak-dong. The exhibition features "furnitural art" by studio EAST×EAST, placing modern sculptural furniture within a traditional hanok structure.
The third and final exhibition of the 2026 Namsangol Art Project: Layer, titled "Accumulated Hands, Woodworkers" by studio EAST×EAST, will take place from Tuesday, November 3, to Sunday, November 22, at the Yi Seung-eop House in Samgak-dong. The keyword for this exhibition is "furnitural art." By adding sculptural elements to the form and function of furniture, the exhibition weaves together the familiarity of everyday furniture with the strangeness of art pieces intended for appreciation. Visitors can view the work of the studio as it moves between furniture and sculpture, and between art and design. The venue is the house of Lee Seung-eop, a master carpenter who participated in the reconstruction of Gyeongbokgung Palace during the late Joseon period. By placing modernly reinterpreted furniture pieces within the traditional wooden structure of the hanok, the exhibition allows for a side-by-side comparison of woodworking and formative methods from different eras.
studio EAST×EAST is an art and design studio formed by Jo Dong-ho and Choi Dong-eun. Based on their experience in sculptural work and interest in woodworking, the duo began collaborating in 2022 and has been active in Seoul since 2026. Meanwhile, "Layer" is a relay exhibition where the works of different artists continue within the same hanok. Following "House of Materials" by SOOSOON in September and "Silence of Layers" by artist Jo Min-yeol in October, this exhibition will conclude the three-part journey.
