Gyeonggi Province will hold the ‘28th Gyeonggi Intangible Heritage Festival’ at the Gapyeong Culture and Arts Center from October 16 to 18.
During this festival, performance, exhibition, and experience programs involving holders and successors of Gyeonggi Province's intangible heritage will be held. Traditional arts from various regions of Gyeonggi, such as Icheon Turtle Play, Gyeonggi Sword Dance, Gyeonggi Songseo Yulchang, Yangju Farmers' Music, and Toegyewon Mask Play, will take to indoor and outdoor stages during the festival period.
The exhibition hall will be decorated as a space to look back at both the past and the future. In the ‘Memory Space,’ visitors can follow the footsteps of past masters through the works, photos, videos, and instruments of deceased holders, while the ‘Future Exhibition’ shows how traditional skills are passed down to the next generation through the works of transmission instructors.
On the 17th, a ceremony for the ‘Gyeonggi Intangible Heritage Transmission and Remembrance Day,’ held for the first time this year, will also take place. It is an occasion to reflect on the hard work of successors through tribute performances for transmission instructors and commendations for contributors.
This year, the international exchange program with the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland, is also noteworthy. The Legnica Song and Dance Ensemble will present Polish traditional folk dance and vocal music, and 43 pieces of 700-year-old traditional Bolesławiec pottery and 13 pieces of glass crafts will be exhibited. In Gapyeong, the home of Hanji (traditional Korean paper), visitors can also experience traditional Polish paper making, which is expected to provide an opportunity to experience the traditional cultures of two different countries together.
