'Navigating Life with Ottchil' Moon Art Ground Museum holds Kim Gyeong-won's 《Voyage of the Cell 2026》

Moon Art Ground Museum is hosting Kim Gyeong-won's special invitational exhibition, 《Voyage of the Cell 2026》, which explores the layers of human memory and emotion through traditional Ottchil (lacquerware) techniques. The exhibition features paintings, installations, and video works held at Moon Gallery and Silver Screen.

Just like Ottchil being layered repeatedly, human memories and emotions also hold multiple layers of time. Artist Kim Gyeong-won views this as a single 'cell' and unfolds a voyage that leads from an individual's inner self to the sea.

Just as Ottchil (lacquer) builds up in layers, human memories and emotions also hold multiple layers of time. Artist Kim Gyeong-won views this as a single 'cell' and unfolds a voyage from the individual's inner self to life and the sea.

Moon Art Ground Museum is presenting the special invitational exhibition 《Voyage of the Cell 2026》 by artist Kim Gyeong-won until November 29. This exhibition, held at Moon Gallery and Silver Screen, allows viewers to appreciate works including paintings, installations, and video works, all expressed through traditional Ottchil techniques within the realm of metal craft.

Artist Kim Gyeong-won has reinterpreted Ottchil in a modern way, using it as a formative language to look into the inner self. In particular, defining the layers of memory and emotion as a 'cell,' the concept starts from the cell, the beginning of life, and expands to the artist themselves and the sea.

In the artist's note, Kim Gyeong-won shared the words, 'The cell is the sea, and I am also the sea.' This allows visitors to more easily understand the artist's philosophy and encourages them to reflect on their own memories and lives, just as the artist reflects on life. Furthermore, through 'Voyage of the Cell 2026: Media Exhibition,' the working process can be more easily appreciated.

During the exhibition period, 'Exhibition Commentary with the Artist' will be held as a linked program. Visitors can meet artist Kim Gyeong-won to hear directly about the world of the works and the creative process, while also resolving curiosities about the pieces. Additionally, one can deeply examine the meaning of the 'cell.'

Also, the experience program 'Color Make' will be operated. As a silkscreen experience, visitors can capture their own colors on a T-shirt or eco-bag using the Moon Art Ground signature design.

Moon Art Ground Museum viewing hours are from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM. Detailed information regarding the exhibition and experience programs can be found on the Moon Art Ground Museum official website and Instagram.
