Seoul Auction will hold "BUSAN SALE" at Grand Josun Busan on Friday, the 23rd at 4:00 PM. The works will first be showcased at the Seoul Auction Gangnam Center until Saturday, October 17, before moving to Busan on the 20th to be exhibited until the 23rd.
Nam June Paik's 1994 work 〈Internet Dweller: sw. six. Sa〉, a master of media art, will appear in a domestic auction for the first time. The work predicts the digital network era in the form of a robot by combining vintage TVs, cameras, and vacuum tubes.
Works by masters of abstract painting are also noteworthy. Chung Sang-hwa's 〈Untitled 2008-3-5〉 is a blue monochrome completed through a repeated process of applying kaolin to the canvas, peeling it off, and filling it with acrylic; while it looks uniform from a distance, fine grids and undulations are revealed up close.
Lee Bae's large-scale 100-ho work 〈Brushstroke-de 6〉 and Woo Kuk-won's 〈Make Love〉 will also be offered side by side. Among the international artists, Yayoi Kusama's 1981 work 〈Pumpkin〉 and 1997 work 〈No.39〉, which the artist passed away from this year, and Banksy's print 〈Banksquiat (Grey)〉 will make their debut in a domestic auction.
In the old art section, old paintings that allow for the examination of collection history are drawing attention. Kang Se-hwang's 〈Gyo-ga-juk-seok〉 bears the collection seal of Yoon Hui-jung, a collector from the late Joseon Dynasty, and 〈Chae-gwa-do〉, which is believed to be by Kim Hong-do, is a work painted using the mokgol method. The calligraphy of Kim Jeong-hui and the signed works of Yi Hwang also carry the inscriptions of later scholars.
Calligraphy of modern and contemporary figures has also been gathered. Along with the ink work 〈Gwi-su-bul-sim〉 written by Kim Gu after liberation, the abstract ink works of Lee Jong-sang, who passed away this year, will be revealed for the first time. The luxury section includes a Rolex 'Hulk' Submariner seized by the National Tax Service, an Hermès Birkin 35, and a 4.03-carat diamond ring from Cartier.
The items for sale can be viewed on the Seoul Auction website from 10:00 AM on October 8.
