LP Gallery to hold Alissa-J special curated exhibition ‘Garden of Childhood’

Paju's LP Gallery is hosting a special curated exhibition, ‘Garden of Childhood’, by emerging artist Alissa-J, running until October 9. The exhibition began on September 10.

This exhibition is centered around Neo-expressionist paintings created by the artist based on her childhood memories and experiences. The artist expresses inner anxiety and memories by combining fairy-tale imagery with everyday subjects on the canvas.

The exhibition title, ‘Garden of Childhood’, signifies a space where childhood imagination and memories stemming from an unstable environment coexist. The works feature familiar subjects such as cartoonish motifs, vases, gardens, and figures, which are reconstructed using rough brushstrokes, distorted outlines, and intense colors.

Alissa-J focuses on intuitive brushwork and composition rather than precise formal depiction. Her method involves leaving thick layers of paint, dripping traces, and mismatched lines directly on the canvas.

She also repeatedly applies color over completed images or erases and covers parts of them. In this process, parts of previously drawn images remain on the canvas, causing multiple stages of work to overlap on a single screen.

LP Gallery explained that this exhibition is organized to allow viewers to observe Alissa-J's process of transforming childhood memories into painterly images, as well as her expressive methods such as color and brushwork.

Lee Kyung-hee, CEO of LP Gallery, stated, “Alissa-J is an artist who incorporates both the visual elements of figurative expressionism and her own internal narrative into her work. In this exhibition, you can encounter works where the artist has painterly released childhood memories and anxiety.”

Meanwhile, LP Gallery continues to host exhibitions introducing the works of contemporary art artists from Korea and abroad, and this special curated exhibition by Alissa-J will proceed until October 9.
