The 13th "Gyeonggi Ceramics Biennale 2026" concluded on November 1, drawing approximately 324,000 visitors over a 45-day period.
Hosted by Gyeonggi Province and organized by the Korea Ceramic Foundation, the event was held from September 18 at Icheon Cerapia, Gonjiam Ceramic Park, and Yeoju Ceramic World under the theme "Earth Makes." A total of 1,423 artists from 77 countries participated, showcasing 1,351 works.
In the main exhibition and international competition, domestic and international artists used clay as a medium to address history, culture, the environment, and the future. The event was evaluated as having expanded the scope of ceramic art as contemporary art by interpreting the traditional material of clay through a new lens. The International Ceramic Workshop, which included 18 domestic and international artists, allowed audiences to observe the production process closely through studio openings, participatory experiences, and artist talks.
This year, participation from domestic ceramic artists was increased, and programs for nurturing the future generation were strengthened. The works of domestic ceramic artists were introduced through the "Master Exhibition" featuring 64 masters, a "Special Exhibition" where works could be purchased, and the "Beautiful Our Ceramics Competition." Additionally, the "To the Future" university student ceramic exhibition, "Day for Ceramic Major University Students," and a ceramic competition for university students provided the next generation of ceramic artists with opportunities to experience international trends.
The Korea Ceramic Foundation plans to leverage its network of overseas institutions and experts to support the global advancement of domestic artists and the expansion of the art market. Furthermore, the foundation intends to simultaneously develop the professionalism of international exhibitions, the participation of local ceramic artists, and public experiences by reflecting visitor satisfaction and the demands of provincial residents.
