Vacant Stores on Sharosu-gil to be Filled with Digital Art Created by Residents… 《New-Life Art Radio Shop》 Opens

Vacant commercial spaces will be transformed into a digital art space containing the daily lives and memories of residents for 13 days. Rather than being held in a cultural facility, this event takes place in the middle of a local commercial district, showcasing works created directly by residents and providing an opportunity to view familiar local landscapes in a different way.

The Gwanak Cultural Foundation Smile Education Center will host the ‘Gwanak Village Creative Studio Meets Digital Season 3’ 《New-Life Art Radio Shop》 pop-up exhibition in vacant stores within the Sharosu-gil commercial district from September 19 to October 1.
 

In this exhibition, Gwanak residents will present works they have produced over approximately two months since last July using AI and digital technology. After collecting sounds and places in the neighborhood that are easily overlooked, as well as personal memories, they have expressed them through various forms of creative works such as photos, writing, and sound.

Visitors can encounter interactive sound installations made by editing sounds collected from the area, as well as photo books and media art that use AI and digital technology to newly reconfigure photos and writings recording the spaces and memories of Gwanak. In addition to the finished results, visitors can also observe the process through which residents discovered their daily lives as artistic material and developed them into works.

The exhibition venues will include the Smile Education Center and vacant stores within Sharosu-gil. A key feature is that commercial spaces that had been vacant for a long time have been turned into exhibition halls so that residents can naturally encounter the works on the streets they usually walk.

During the exhibition period, a docent program will also be arranged where the residents who created the works directly share the production process and stories behind the pieces. In the experience program 《My Repair Desk》, which is modeled after a radio shop's workbench, participants can write emotional diaries and draw the day they desire, allowing them to reconstruct their daily lives in a new way.
