Spaces are Created Even After Completion: 《Caring by Design》 to be Held at Culture Station Seoul 284

Going one step beyond creating new public spaces, an exhibition will be held that focuses on the act of maintaining and managing spaces after time has passed.

The special exhibition 《Caring by Design》, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Heritage Service and organized by the Korea Craft & Design Foundation, will be held at Culture Station Seoul 284 from September 17 to November 1.

This exhibition does not limit public design to the work of creating new spaces or facilities, but views the process of continuously operating and managing completed spaces as part of the realm of design. It examines cities, architecture, and interior spaces as a single operating system, focusing on the daily management activities such as repair, renovation, inspection, and cleaning, as well as the labor performed to carry them out.

The exhibition focuses on the process and time rather than the design results, and on operation rather than design. In that spaces used by people continue to be maintained through numerous hands and tools even after they are completed and create new meanings, 'caring' is viewed as one way of constituting a space.

Participating artists include Kim Tae-dong, Daisy Jiyen Zhang, Rad, Miel Ladderman Yukelis, Park Sun-min, Bae Yoon-ho, Baek Yoon-seok, Vocal, Seo Ji-woo, Andres Haake, Jan Borman, SOA, Airoot, Aiko Lab, Lee Byung-yeop+Cha Jin-yeop, Jung Young-sun, Small Medium City Forum, Chantal+Alexandra Kengjiolek, Choi Jeong-hwa, and Han Seong-pil.

The general curator is CAC curator Jung Da-young, and curators Kim Hee-jung and Jung Seong-gyu composed the exhibition together. Space design was handled by Post Standards, and graphic design by Il-sang's Practice and Im Ha-young.

The exhibition is free to view and is open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with admission available until 30 minutes before closing. It is closed every Monday and on the day of Chuseok, and on every Wednesday, 'Culture Day,' it operates extended hours until 7:00 PM.
