Galleryt holds Mita solo exhibition ‘A New Language, It’s a Shark’

Galleryt announced that it will hold the solo exhibition ‘A New Language, It’s a Shark’ by artist Mita from September 11 to December 12 at the Lotte Department Store Dongtan New Building.

This exhibition is organized to allow viewers to explore the evolving world of Mita's work, centered around the 'smiling shark' which the artist has used as a major subject.

Artist Mita has reinterpreted sharks, which are generally expressed with sharp teeth and cold images, into characters with smiling expressions and intense colors. The sharks in the works travel the sea or transform into various forms such as ships and rockets, composing each scene.

The artist utilizes the shark as a repeatedly appearing character and as a formative language to convey her thoughts and stories. The works are characterized by combining colors using primary colors, simplified forms, and various expressions.

The exhibition title ‘A New Language, It’s a Shark’ was also derived from the artist's method of using the shark as a single visual language. Through various works centered on the shark in this exhibition, the process of a single subject transforming into different scenes and stories is shown.

Artist Mita has held solo exhibitions in Seoul, Busan, Daejeon, and Dongtan. Her work has been included in elementary school art textbooks, and she has conducted collaborative projects in fields outside of exhibitions, such as Busan Beer/Ggulgguk House labels, tourism magazine covers, and The Hyundai Daegu VIP umbrellas.

Galleryt curator Choe Ji-won said, “To artist Mita, the shark is a language for looking at the world and delivering stories,” and added, “We hope this exhibition serves as an opportunity to view familiar objects through a new perspective.”

The exhibition can be viewed for free without a separate prior reservation.
