Rosa.C (real name Choi Mi-jin) is holding her invited solo exhibition 《What Are You Doing Today?》 at Alpha Gallery until the 13th. This exhibition, which opened on the 1st, showcases the artist's representative series, new works, and lifestyle goods utilizing the artworks.
‘What Are You Doing Today?’ is a series that began from the everyday phrase of asking how someone is doing. Through the character ‘Rosa.C’, who shares the same name as the artist, she unfolds stories about love, comfort, rest, and relationships. The figures, whose facial expressions are not explicitly revealed, and the empty spaces on the canvas are composed so that viewers can project their own emotions.
Among the major works, 〈Born to Be Queen_Gyotaejeon Hall〉 incorporates Korean elements such as Hanbok and Jang-ot (traditional Korean veil) against the backdrop of Gyotaejeon Hall at Gyeongbokgung Palace. Through the character in the work, she expresses the image of a woman becoming the subject of her own life.
〈Born to Be Queen_Tinknit〉 is a work produced in 2021 that was reworked again this year. Based on a clothing design collaboration with the knitwear brand Tinknit, the character's outfit and the composition of the screen have been newly completed.
〈Fly Me Away〉 utilizes the image of a maze-shaped garden to represent the busy daily routine. Through the figure rising above the maze, she expresses the heart that seeks new possibilities by leaving familiar spaces.
Considering the characteristics of the space as a gallery located within the Alpha Stationery main store, art goods are also being presented. Products utilizing the artwork images, such as T-shirts, eco-bags, mugs, and keyrings, are on display and for sale.
