KICCA and Shanghai Qingqi Fengyue Culture Media announced that they will hold a special exhibition for Jianshui Purple Pottery at the ‘31st Busan Cafe Show’ held at BEXCO in Busan on October 15. This is the second domestic exhibition following the Seoul exhibition on September 10.

This exhibition focuses on ‘陰刻陽填’, a representative production technique of Jianshui Purple Pottery. The method involves engraving letters, drawings, or patterns onto the semi-dried pottery surface, filling them with clay of different colors, firing them at high temperatures, and then polishing the surface.

Jianshui Purple Pottery is a type of pottery produced in the Jianshui area of Yunnan Province, China, and has developed based on the geographical environment and traditional craft techniques of Yunnan. The exhibition also focuses on the relationship between Pu'er Tea, a representative tea of Yunnan, and Jianshui Purple Pottery. Through the pottery used as tools for containing and brewing tea, it shows how the local pottery and tea culture are connected.

Content related to the physical properties of the pottery will also be introduced. The exhibition examines the composition of the clay used in Jianshui Purple Pottery, its fine pore structure, and preservation characteristics according to changes in temperature and humidity from a material science perspective. It is organized so that visitors can look beyond viewing traditional crafts solely as aesthetic objects and examine the characteristics of the materials and the production process.

While Jianshui Purple Pottery is produced as daily necessities including tea tools, there are also works that hand-express calligraphy, paintings, and patterns. Some high-difficulty production works that are difficult to encounter through general distribution channels are scheduled to be exhibited in this exhibition.

The two organizations plan to continue programs that introduce the origin of Jianshui Purple Pottery, natural clay, production techniques, Chinese calligraphy and painting, and Yunnan's tea culture, including the Seoul and Busan exhibitions.

An official from the organizer said, “Through this second domestic exhibition, we intend to introduce the culture and traditional crafts of Yunnan through the medium of pottery and tea,” and added, “It will be an opportunity to examine both the production process and the physical properties of Jianshui Purple Pottery.”

Meanwhile, this exhibition will take place during the period of the 31st Busan Cafe Show held on October 15.
